We are seeking volunteers who would like to organise non workshop-based events such as social coffee mornings, film nights, and bike rides as well as ensuring the Bikery has a presence at relevant local events.

 

The Bikery is a community bike project based in Bradford which refurbishes bikes for sale at affordable prices and provides training courses in bike maintenance as well as a friendly workshop space where people can come and repair their bicycles.

 

Main point of contact/Reports to: Anthony Thomson, Project Co-ordinator

Commitment: To be agreed, recommended 4 - 7 hours a week

Times: To be discussed

Location:  Bradford city centre in our new space Bradford Capital of Cycling ( formerly sportsshoes.com) but other locations including BD5.

 

Main activities/tasks:

  • Bikery events
    • Design, promote and lead creative, engaging activities involving bikes or creating opportunities to talk about cycling and bikes.
  • External Events
    • Identify outreach opportunities for the Bikery and arrange our attendance including liaising with event organisers
    • Coordinate attendance of other volunteers to represent us at these events
    • Coordinate collection of resources from the workshop in advance of the event and return these afterwards
    • Engage with the public about our aims, activities, hours and general operation

 

Experience/Skills:

  • Essential
    • Ability to use online communication (email, twitter, Facebook) or willingness to learn
    • Engaging written and verbal communication
    • Good general knowledge of our aims and activities
    • Ability to identify opportunities for community engagement
    • Events organisation
  • Desirable
    • Good local contacts
    • Friendly and outgoing demeanour

 

Training provision:

  • Induction covering health and safety, fire safety, workshop layout and procedures

 

Training opportunities:

  • Free bike maintenance training course leading to CTC Advanced Maintenance Suite qualification
  • Other training as appropriate can be discussed
