The Bikery is a community bike project based in Bradford which refurbishes bikes for sale at affordable prices, provides training courses in bike maintenance, offers volunteering opportunities and placements, as well as a friendly workshop space where people can come and repair their bicycles.
We have a workshop and training space in the ground floor of Buchan Towers in central Bradford. We work with local residents and people from the wider Bradford community, as well as people who are referred to us by other organisations.
We currently have a weekly bike repair drop-in taking place every Wednesday from 4pm until 8pm. See our Drop-in page for more details.

Main point of contact/Reports to: Anthony Thomson, Project Co-ordinator
Commitment: To be agreed, recommended 4 - 7 hours a week
Times: To be discussed
Location: Bradford city centre in our new space Bradford Capital of Cycling ( formerly sportsshoes.com) but other locations including BD5
Main activities/tasks:
- Newsletter
- Compose and send one e-newsletter per month, and produce a hard copy version
- Website & Social Media
- Compose and post two (or more) blog posts per month
- Seek, edit and post blog posts from other contributors
- Update social media, i.e. Facebook & Twitter
- Photography, Graphics & Design
- Be responsible for photographic/graphic images on the website and update these throughout the year
- Order new flyers and posters as needed
- Take photographs of the workshop and events and post on website and social media
- Manage email database and promote our work to Bradford colleges, schools, bike groups, etc.
- Post courses and workshops on local events websites
Experience/Skills:
- Essential
- Ability to use online communication (email, twitter, Facebook) or willingness to learn
- Good general knowledge of our aims and activities
- Enthusiasm about bicycles
- Flexibility and capability to work independently
- Desirable
- Knowledge of WordPress and Mail Chimp
- Knowledge or experience with graphic design and marketing
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to write with a humorous, engaging and friendly style
Training provision:
- Induction covering health and safety, fire safety, workshop layout and procedures
Training opportunities:
- Training in Mail Chimp and WordPress
- Free bike maintenance training course leading to CTC Advanced Maintenance Suite qualification
- Other training as appropriate can be discussed
