Meet Your Candidates
Students’ Union
By-Election 2025–26

Calling all Higher Education students – your Students’ Union needs you! Elections take place so that students can elect the Student Officers that they want to represent their views. Student Officers are vital in the running of the Students’ Union, from the general day-to-day activities through to shaping the long-term future of the Students’ Union.

SYMANTHA EWING
For Every Student, Every Voice Matters

I am seeking election for the position of Higher Education and Welfare Officer because I am deeply committed to enhancing the student experience at Bradford College. I believe that every Higher Education student should have equitable access to high-quality learning, effective representation, and comprehensive welfare support.

If elected, I will prioritise strengthening the student voice system by ensuring that course representatives are fully supported and that student feedback is listened to, acted upon, and communicated transparently. I will work collaboratively with the Students’ Union, academic quality teams, and senior leadership to address key issues affecting teaching, learning, and wellbeing.

I am particularly passionate about promoting student welfare and inclusion, with a focus on improving mental health awareness, safety, and the overall learning environment. Through evidence-based advocacy and open dialogue, I aim to ensure that the needs and concerns of Higher Education students are reflected in college policies and practices.

I am confident that, with your support, we can continue to build a stronger, fairer, and more supportive Higher Education community at Bradford College.

Vote Symantha Ewing representing your voice with integrity, commitment, and care.

HAIQA KHAN
Supporting Every Learner Towards Brighter Future

As a second-year student preparing for a career in primary teaching, I care deeply about creating supportive, inclusive, and positive environments where everyone can thrive.

Through my experiences from my first year, I have learned how to listen, communicate clearly, and adapt for the needs of others—skills I want to bring into the role of HE & Welfare Officer.

If elected, I will focus on strengthening student wellbeing support, improving communication between students and the SU, and ensuring that learners—especially those preparing for careers in education—have access to tools, understanding, and encouragement they need to progress.

My goal is to help build a positive, collaborative community where all HE students feel valued, supported, and heard.

RAJIA KHOKHAR
Supporting Higher Education Students

I am standing for election because I believe every student deserves to be heard, supported, and treated fairly throughout their higher education journey. I have strong experience advocating for others, including vulnerable adults, and I bring lived experience of facing challenges as a student myself.

I understand the wide range of needs that higher education students have today. These include access to mental health support, clear academic communication, fair placement arrangements, consistent learning environments, financial guidance, and disability support. I also recognise that many students do not know their rights, including how to raise concerns or make a complaint when something isn’t right. I want to change that.

If elected, I will:

- Advocate for consistent communication and fair treatment across all courses.

- Promote student rights, including knowing how to challenge decisions and access support.

- Push for better access to resources, such as stable classrooms, equipment, and study spaces.

- Support wellbeing, ensuring students can access help when they need it.

- Make sure placement issues are handled fairly and transparently.

- Champion inclusivity, ensuring all students feel they belong and are respected.

- I will work hard to ensure your voices are heard and acted upon. I will advocate on your behalf with confidence, compassion, and determination.
